Beyond roaring in like a lion (and ambling out like a lamb), March marks Texas History Month – prime time to fly the Lone Star State’s eponymous flag.
The timing is hardly a coincidence: The historic Battle of the Alamo began on March 6, 1836 (the 13th day of the siege by Mexican troops). Fighting ensued, lasting for a scant 90 minutes, leaving all the Texan defenders dead – including David Crockett, former congressman from Tennessee.
This pivotal event in the Texas Revolution, and the ensuing loss of the besieged fort, was felt throughout the state as well as around the world.
