In 1965, Austin Parks and Rec invited the community at large to gather around the glow of a festive fire at the city’s inaugural “Yule Fest.” In the 58 years since that first fire was lit – a solstice tradition thought to usher luck and fortune for all – Austin can be counted on to be glowing in December.
Today, the Austin Trail of Lights – marked by two million lights along 1.25 miles, 90 illuminated trees and more than 70 holiday displays (including lighted tunnels) – is a cherished local tradition that transforms Zilker Park into a winter wonderland (sans snow!) Dec. 1-23.
