Since 1978, Austin has been celebrating Mardi Gras in style – Brazilian style, that is. What grew from a small party for homesick college students has grown into the largest indoor Carnaval party on the planet – happening this year on Saturday, Feb. 22.
This local institution – held annually at The Speakeasy (412 Congress Ave.) – attracts thousands of costumed partygoers from all over the United States, drawn by the intoxicating samba beats and an uninhibited atmosphere.
Gigi and Brazilian Express plus Austin Samba School will provide nonstop dance music that begins at 9 p.m.
Wear comfy (dancing) shoes and consider advance tickets.
