Ballet Austin celebrates 60th anniversary of ‘The Nutcracker’

by Margaret Willard

The city’s holiday season is synonymous with The Nutcracker, a sweet, festive tradition from Ballet Austin. Enjoy 15 not-to-be-missed performances between Dec. 3-23 at The Long Center.

Hundreds of dancers will grace the stage, performing Stephen Mills’ enchanting choreography to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s magical score with live accompaniment from Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Recognized by The Washington Post as, “one of the nation’s best-kept secrets,” Ballet Austin is the 12th-largest classical ballet company in the United States. The Nutcracker is presented by the Georgia B. Lucas Foundation Fund, which has provided grants to more than 200 local nonprofits.

A sweet treat indeed.
